Windows 2012 license

I'm trying to find if a small business has the right to use a Windows 2012 license but I don't know where to start. They have so Windows 2008 licenses so I assume they have a Microsoft live account. They don't have any documentation regarding this info. Is there a way to find this?

Thank you

With *no* documentation? No. Even if they have VL licenses, you'd need a modicum of information to perform a lookup.
Do you buy Microsoft licenses through distribution (Synnex?  Techdata?  Etc.?)  If so, you should have a Microsoft rep (Or possibly even their licensing desk can help.)  If you give them the client's info (Name, etc.) they can usually look through the volume license system to see what's been purchased through open.

Dipersp and Cliff - are absolutely correct, your distributor or MS Rep is your best resource.  Here's a nice article from CDW regarding MS Open License, I recommend that you review it.  Take care, Sergio
