Mysql connections are nearly 10 million, what could be the reason and how to solve

Mysql connections found 10 million  by using query "Show status like '%onn%'". Thread connections showing more than 10 million. What can be done to bring to normal and how much connections can a Mysql database server handle?

Is this part of a web site?  Is there a scripting language involved?  Any other clues you can give us will definitely help!

This sounds like a logic error in the code - perhaps looping or not reusing a pre-existing connection.  Have you got any way of sending a console message every time a connection is made?  If so you might be able to detect the issue by visualizing the moment of connection.

Thanks for the response and How to enable the console message to every connection made - any link to understand it.
Does the mysql connections overloading compensated by any mysql.ini file settings change?
