Window after restart always display File name extension

When i shut down window 7 or window 8. than start again the file name will automatic show the File name extension. I change the setting and restart it will come back again. May i know what happen?

    Open Control Panel and the open Folder Options.  Select the View Tab and review the settings. Check (select) the setting that says "Hide extensions of known types". That is the setting that affect this, and there are lots of known types, but it won't hide an extension if unknown.
