Cent OS Email Server Postfix

I need to choose an email server for a CentOS installation - such as Post Fix....is that a good one?
The most important point for me is that I can somehow configure piping.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Is AFAIK the same as Cyrus? Is that the same as Roundcube? Just clearing up . .

Manfred BertlManagerCommented:
Cyrus is a IMAP/POP3 Server, Postfix is an SMTP Server. So, there's quite a difference.

Starquest321Author Commented:
What is AFAIK...? And Roundcube is just a client, right?

Manfred BertlManagerCommented:
AFAIK == As Far As I Know

Roundcube is a wonderful Webinterface for your IMAP/SMTP Server. Try it out. I use it often when i'm on the road an do not have my own mobile devices with me.

So the solution would be:

Postfix + Cyrus+ Spam Assisn||  Roundcube :: Horde... for users, right?

Manfred BertlManagerCommented:
Yes, perfect combination. You could - as an easy alternative - use all this packages at once with Parallels Plesk Admin Interface, or you can of course configure all that by hand, or in parts with webmin as interface.

Postfix is one of mayor mailservers with exim leading the herd and sendmail crawling behind.

Starquest321Author Commented:
I looked up: Parallels Plesk Admin Interface - that's a paid interface, right?
0
gheistCommented:
Yes it is paid. But why would you use one - you can just edit files in /etc/postfix and learn something new. Modern postfix will not let you open an open relay.

Just another quick question: what is the difference between postfix and dovecot?
0
gheistCommented:
Well like between potatoes and apples.
One is SMTP MTA, while other is IMAP and POP mailbox server
