VisualVM should work fine with Tomcat inside Eclipse (

It's a general purpose profiler, not tied to any specific IDE and very powerful.

There also looks to be a launcher project for Eclipse:

Hope that helps,

i have copied the extracted files in eclipse features and plugin respectively, but it's not working?
When you say "it's not working" do you mean you can't start the VisualVM tool?  Or when it runs, you aren't seeing Tomcat as one of the available Java processes?

I would suggest making sure you can get the tool to run without the plugin first - just launch visualvm directly.

Then once you have that working, you can try the plugin integration.

i have installed and configured the plugin in eclipse but as per mentioned in vusualvm site

Create a new application configuration

it is for java application, how to configure it for web application and check time utilization by each java file?
That java application you are looking to profile is Tomcat.  So you need to point visualvm at that process.

Once you do that it will tell you which methods are taking time.

I've never personally used this plugin - that's why I'd suggest using visualvm as a standalone profiler first (see for details on how to run it etc.) and get that working.  Then you can try the plugin.
