Mass remove Wordpress user roles for members

I would like to do a mass update of user roles.  Right now everyone is set to contributor, but I would like to remove that from everyone to make them all "normal" users. Then I can update just the few people who need to have more.  I am not afraid of mySQL, etc.  Just looking for suggestions on this can be done easily and quickly.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

In the WordPress usermeta table, each user will have a meta_value entry that looks like this:

a:1:{s:11:"contributor";s:1:"1";}

Change it via an Update query to this:

a:1:{s:10:"subscriber";s:1:"1";}
