Install Visual runtime seperatley before the SQl install.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/search/DownloadResults.aspx?q=Visual%20C%2B%2B%20Runtime

May also be worth installing .NET versions before SQL install too.

Can you try Windows 2012 standard version instead?

NO cannot try Standard.

The essentials in question is a running server on a live site

The reason why I have selected Seth as the answer is because of the link he provided.

(Also understand where he is coming from)

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(v=sql.110).aspx

The SQL installation was via an RDP session. Which at the time of posting the question had no idea that RDP would be an issue.

I found in the link above the following:

"The installation of SQL Server 2012 fails if you launch the setup through Terminal Services Client. Launching SQL Server Setup through Terminal Services Client is not supported."

I wasnt sure if it was also possible to install SQL on WSE2012 R2 due to the installation freezing

I corrected this by connect via rdp console

Of all the answer posted, Seth was the most accurate  one

Thanks
