"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You can change the field portion by right going to my computer and right clicking on manage and change the name.

Same thing for changing the DEPT which if you are in a non-doman (workgroup) environment it would just be changing the workgroup you are a part of.

I assume all this is just testing and for learning purposes  ?

I right clock on Manage, and see something that looks like this:

Server manager
+ Roles
+ Features
+ Diagnostics
- Configuration
  + task Scheduler
  + Windows Firewall
    Services
    WMI Control
  + Local users and groups
+ Storage

What path do I take to chage the name and the workgroup ?

Thanks

Go to the System Control Panel
In the Computer Name, Domain, and workgroup settings section, click "change settings".

In the System Properties window that opens, click on the Change button on "Computer name" tab.

When you click on manage in the top right you should see Change system properties.

That will do what you need.
