Child Parent Grandparent backups using Data Protection Manager

I am planning an implementation of Child Parent Grandparent backups for disaster recovery purposes. I am currently using Microsoft DPM 2012 for my normal backups.

I want to be able to perform the Child Parent Grandparent backups using DPM 2012 as well, but instead of pointing the to my storage (as the regular backups), I want to point these backups to some external drives that I can easily detach and take them to a safe location if needed.

Has anyone accomplish this? how?

I am also open to any recommendation as well.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This is normally known as Grandfather, Father, Son, but no matter. If you aren't doing this now what are are you doing?

I have a secondary DPM 2012 in the cloud, replicating constantly with my primary DPM in house, but I want to have other means of recovery just in case.

Have you considered "Incrementals Forever" with synthetic fulls to speed things up?
LuiLui77Author Commented:
No be honest is the first time I hear about it, can you guide me or forward documentation?
Gerald ConnollyCommented:
Most modern Backup software can do this.

So "Incrementals Forever" means that you can do a full Backup at the beginning of a Month and then do Incrementals everyday. The Incrementals obviously take a lot less time than a Full. Meanwhile at any point you can generate a Synthetic full OFFLINE, by combining the Full and the Incrementals. This means you only have to do a Real Full backup at a minimum once a month
