I'm Configuring Remote Connections in IIS Manager for IIS 7 on Server 2008 R2. The server web server has been running for years, so needless to say that app pools and websites have been also. Are there any ramifications or considerations to enabling Remote Connections with Windows Credentials and IIS Credentials to teh existing sites? In other words, will any current access to the sites be interupted in any way? Will the server require a reboot? This is a production server so I wish to be careful and consider as many points of concern as possible... Please advise me in this regard. Thank you.<br />

Configuring Remote Administration and Feature Delegation in IIS 7

IIS is Internet Information Services, the web server included with Windows Server operating systems. All current versions are built on a modular architecture; modules can be added or removed individually so that those required for specific functionality are installed. The full installation of IIS includes HTTP, security, content, compression, caching, logging and diagnostics.

Microsoft IIS Web Server

An application server is a software framework that provides both facilities to create applications and a server environment to run them. Most application server frameworks contain a comprehensive service layer model, acting as a set of components accessible to the software developer through an API defined by the platform itself. For Web applications, these components are usually performed in the same running environment as their web server(s), and their main job is to support the construction of dynamic pages. However, many application servers target much more than just Web page generation: they implement services like clustering, fail-over, and load-balancing.

Application Servers

A Web service is a method of communication between two electronic devices over a network. It is a software function provided at a network address over the Web with the service always on as in the concept of utility computing. A web service has an interface described in Web Services Description Language (WSDL). Other systems interact with the Web service in a manner prescribed by its description using SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) messages. There are two major classes of Web services: REST-compliant web services, and Arbitrary web services.
