I run the following curl program to connect to a JSON web service

C:\curl>curl -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d @saml.txt http://localhost:8
081/
{ "name" : "aaa" }

I am using the header application/json

what header do I use for XML

It depends on the type of service.  
application/soap+xml
application/xml
application/rest+xml
text/xml
etc..
