Can I connect a Windows CE 5.2 scanner to my windows 2008 AD?  I know I could setup an MDM enrollment service for windows mobile devices but why can't I just join the domain like any other windows OS?

No, Windows CE does not support AD ads. That is solely a property of the Pro/Enterprise versions of full Windows.

All of the research I had done on Domain Enrollment with Windows CE has pointed me to the conclusion that it is unable to connect as a domain device.
