Can't play audio files on windows 8 phone

I can't play wmv and mp3 on my windows 8 phone from my sharepoint 2013 enterprise site.  says 'sorry we can't play this file on your phone'  If I had an option to download it could possibly work.  any recommendations?

Is it the native player which is not allowing you to play the video ?
Till now I have researched and experienced that native player doesnt receive browser cookies and hence fails to authenticate with SharePoint. Still as a recommendation I would like you to try this

I don't have the setting "show streaming music in my collection".  I'm on Window 8.  not 8.1.

I figured out a workaround. I compress the audio to a .zip. The phone knows to download a .zip,  which then decompresses and plays automatically after decompression.
