I am creating a wordpress site for a basketball league and I need to add email functionality. The president of the league needs to send emails to all the members about what is going on in the leagure.  I would also like to have different email list (coaches, parents, etc). I tried to use mailpoet but I couldn't get it to work with Godaddy. I have about 1,200 emails that I need to import in. What is a good email tool for this that is cost effective.
Thanks

Mailchimp.

Up to 2,000 subscribers/12,000 emails per month is free.  Only $15/month after that.

I downloaded the plugin - it looks like the plugin is just to create a form to collect the emails and the actual emails are created outside of wordpress in mailchimp. Is there a mailchimp plugin that does the emails too. I was looking at sendpress also - have you worked with that. Thanks

Mailchimp is the service...the actual plugin you want is Autochimp:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/autochimp/

That has the send-as-you-post functionality.

I tend to not use mail poet or send press or similar because I find that simple mail() statements in a loop have horrible delivery rates.  So I use a service like Mailchimp to handle marketing and content based emails and Mandrill to handle transactional emails (password notifications, comment notifications, payment receipts, etc).  Those services combined with setting WordPress to use SMTP and not mail() work great. Comes at a high cost of time to configure things though.
