Microsoft CRM 2011 Access Problem (DNS or AD related)

dynamics 2011 CRM server
Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise
running in a SBS 2011 AD domain
All systems can ping the CRM server via ip address hostname etc
on server itself can access CRM without issue; remote systems seem to be timing out getting the site
I can reach the CRM IIS interface but when I use the http;//servername:5555 it times out; but I get the IIS7 welcome screen if I use http://servername
I have checked my DNS settings internally as this is how I am testing now but eventually I will make the server available online
All help is greatly appreciated

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Things to check:
1) In the IIS server where CRM is installed, that you only have one binding for CRM and check whether a host header is set up or not
2) The CRM server name is properly resolved by DNS - the fact that you get the IIS 7 welcome screen for http://servername suggests that name resolution is working
3) Firewalls - this is my guess at the problem. Is the Windows firewall (or another firewall) enabled on the CRM server. If so, add a rule that allows incoming traffic on TCP port 5555.
