How do I process a .dmp file created from Task Manager

I have a .dmp file created from the task manager from a running process.  Usually I would use Windbg to process the file.  When I use is it on the .dmp file created I don't recognize anything produced.  Is there another tool that should be used or how do I use WinDbg to process the file
