Outlook 2011 (Mac) – Contact groups – some not working – why?

We have a user using Outlook 2011 on Mac, and they want  use contact groups.  This is with an Exchange account, and I noticed that on Outlook 2011, they are only stored locally rather than on the server, but this is a separate concern I will raise separately

The key issue here is that some of the contacts groups work fine and can be emailed. While some others do not work and when we try and email them it reports a message along the lines of unable to email due to invalid recipients (Don’t have the exact message at present).

We have compared a working contract group and a non-working one and I cannot see any difference (other than the list of recipients).

I have reviewed the contacts in a non-working contract group, and cannot see any that seem corrupted.

Anyone else experienced this or know what could be causing it?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This won't be much help other than I've had the same issues and haven't been able to get Microsoft to confirm any type of resolution. What happens sometimes to me is the group shows however when I try to send it fails and then the addresses are remove with only ;;;;;;;;; showing in their place - strange.

My way around it is to use OWA. Unfortunately I think its not a large concern since 2011 is being phased out.

Hope EE can find a solution.
