hanging windows 7

Hi

A user has a Windows 7 64bit pc (HP Pro series 3405)
AMD A6-3620 2.20 MHz CPU, 4 Gb RAM, 6530D Radeon,

It frequently locks up during the day : the screen goes all white, or all black
The only available is to reboot the PC

I updated the graphics driver, downgraded the antivirus version (ESET Nod32 v7 to version 6)

I checked for malware using Malwarebytes: nothing

Looked on HP support site but didn't find any firmware bios upgrade

any ideas ?

Have you tried running any sort of diagnostic tools from HP? This sounds like it may be a video hardware issue.

Sounds like your paging file is full thus you're out of virtual and physical ram, I would try increasing the memory and let the system set the amount of paging file it needed.

I have downloaded the corresponding HP diags CD and manually set the paging file

check the temperatures of cpu, disk and video card; best install speedfan for this :

checked the fans : all is well
ran the HP diags: all is well

Installed the HP graphics driver (instead of the AMD one)
and all seems well now, let's hope it lasts
