We are not able to open the VMM console. If we try to start the VMM service we are able to access the console for a minute or two and again the console will stop as soon as we do any activity.

Event ID : 7031
The Virtual Machine Manager service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 100 milliseconds: Restart the service.

Hi,

Could you please provide the respective logs from Application events for VMM ?

Is the crash happening only if you are opening the console? If so, is it possible to try installing just the console on a remote machine and connecting to the scvmm server to see if the issue is just with the console.

Good luck !

Thank you for quick reply,
as mentioned in above article, here we are getting some error from cluster group as follows,

Cluster group error from VMM Tracelog....

"MSCluster_Resource Get http://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/mscluster/MSCluster_Resource?Name=SCVMM 'ClusterName' failed : [5007]

Tried both the options with the below details..

1.      Logged in with different domain admin account and tried opening the SCVMM console but it’s not opening and giving same error.
2.      Installed SCVMM console on windows 7 client and tried connecting to SCVMM server console and the result is the same error.

Even tried with following microsoft hotfix for SCVMM 2008 R2 Admin Console, but that cant be intall on my VMM Server (Getting an error).
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982523

Now I am going to try with following MS Hotfix which related to Cluster Group Error which is in my last post.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2492980

Please share your experience and if you have any alternative solution for this issue.

The last option is to remove it from back end, but I don't recommend that as its having big risk. I am not sure if this option works with older version of SCVMM. I had a similar incident where I decommissioned the HyperV Cluster first without removing it from SCVMM 2012 Sp1. I tried to manually delete the objects from SCVMM console but not fully successful as it was not allowing me to delete one cluster node even with -Force switch. Ended up in Microsoft support and after few hours, the option I got is to re-build VMM or do a cleanup from database at own risk.

Here is once document which says about the back end removal.

http://www.miru.ch/how-to-manually-remove-a-host-from-scvmm-2012-sp1/ says about how to do it in SCVMM 2012 enviornment.

Any luck with the hotfix and updates which you tried?

Tried to install the patch which mentioned in my last post by using windows update but it was not listing there so I manually downloaded it and installed with given instructions on Microsoft Site but I am getting this error.

"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."

I have solved this issue and now the SCVMM console is working fine.

I have found one unused VM in the cluster have not any resources attached to it (simply blank). I have deleted that VM from the cluster and SCVMM service is stable.

I found from the VMM trace log that there was some cluster group error pointed to particular VM and as per my further investigation I found that VM does not have any resources attached to it.
