I have a HP ProBook 450 G1 laptop and a HP 2005pr USB 2.0 Port Replicator. Everything was working fine until recently when the video stopped working. I can plug the monitor into the VGA port on the laptop and the monitor works fine. I have seen this issue several times before with the exact same setup and the port replicator is new so I am sure the issue is not hardware. Every time I have a docking station issue, the problems ends up being software.

I have tried the following to fix it.

Unplugged power from laptop and docking station. Removed laptop battery and drained power.
Uninstalled and reinstalled latest port replicator and video driver from the HP website.
Checked video settings but second monitor is not found.
Installed the latest BIOS

Any thoughts on how to trouble shoot this no video problems with the port replicator?

Thanks,

Justin

I suspect that your HP 2005pr USB 2.0 Port Replicator is bad.
Try another HP 2005pr USB 2.0 Port Replicator or RMA it under warranty.

As with most port replicators from HP, the drivers are NOT up to date (even if you download the newest ones). That's because a port replicator has many components, which HP buys and then uses. It also means, each part of the replicator needs its own drivers. If you check the drivers on HP site, the Graphics part has version 5.1.55.8876 installed, while the original manufacturer has 5_3_60_6579 on their website.
Of course, if it is indeed a hardware problem, updating these drivers won't really help. But it's worth a try:

The original chipmaker is MicroChip, using a SMSC UFX6000/UFX7000 chip: http://www.microchip.com/SWLibraryWeb/product.aspx?product=OBJ-UFXx000-WINDOWS
Download and run the SgfxSetup-5_3_60_6579.exe file.

I will have the user try a different docking station and report back.

Kimputer, Where did you see version 5.1.55.8876? I check the HP website for the 450 G1 laptop and found version 5.3.60.6579 for the port replicator driver. That is in the link below.

I will try the link and file you sent me. I appreciate that info.

Thanks,
