IOS name .pkg

In Cisco switch 3650, the ios is cat3k_caa-base.SPA.03.03.00SE.pkg. Any expet can give me an explanation for each parts of the ios name? And why it use .pkg as extension name instead of .bin

Hi Thank you so much for your fast reply. The link talks a lot about the name, and it is very good article on the name. but it does not mention .pkg extension name. Maybe pkg is new feature.

pkg is like zip, pkg is extension for package
