What error message do you get?

Can you post a screen shot, what PC flavour are you running?

Have you tried holding middle and power button together? and then trying to update the phone. Does it backup to the free 5GB of icloud you have if you have signed up?

Also when you connect your iphone to the pc can you update it through itunes?
