Look in Control Panel, Default Programs, Associate a program.<br />

If you are looking by file extension, you can double click to select the application and scroll down then end where you can choose another program.<br />
<br />
If you are the protocols section at the bottom, you can only use the application offered and (at least in the case of Windows 8, go to the Store to find another app).<br />
<br />
If you look in Control Panel, Default Programs. Set Default Program, you can choose different programs for the main defaults.

Unfortunately Lotus Notes does not appear in the list of default programs and I'm wanting to use it for MAPI.<br />
