We have several images taken with acronis true image 2014 that I would like to load onto a esxi 5.1 server (free version). Is there any software out there what would accomplish this?

If you have Acronis Server with the Universal Restore option, you can restore to Bare Metal which includes a virtual machine.

However, an Acronis 2014 *.tib file is not compatible with vCenter Converter Standalone, anymore, earlier version of Acronis products used to be compatible, but VMware have not updated Converter, for newer Acronis products.

but by all means try the latesg 5.5.2 of Converter.
