Best Ways to Connect DL 380 to HP D2700 Disk Enclosure

We recently purchased a new server - a Gen 8 DL 380 and a new disk enclosure for backup purposes.  I have not worked with SAS drives that much and I'm wondering if I'll get better throughput with an external SAS drive cable between the server and the drive enclosure or a direct ethernet connection for daily backups.

Thanks,

Recommended RAID controller with external SAS ports for that server is Smart Array P421. 631673-B21 or 631674-B21. There are a number of other Smart Array controllers that are supported for the server and the enclosure but that's the one I'd use, no advantage paying more for a 12Gb SAS3 controller to support a 6Gb SAS2 enclosure.

Ethernet doesn't come into it, the enclosure connects to the server via SAS. You can of course connect the server that has the SAS enclosure on it to any number of other servers via Ethernet. Treat it as additional internal disks on the server.
