Question :
what does sfc /scannow .. do?
Does it repair something or just scan / check files
?

SFC scans for system errors and corrects then to the extent that it can. I don't know if that will fix iTunes, but it is easy to try.

Windows Repair install is more difficult and, if it works, can fix bigger operating system damage.
