I would start with the online docs:
10 Managing Oracle Software and Applying Patches
This chapter describes how to manage Oracle software and apply patches in Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) environments using the OPatch utility.

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/rac.112/e17264/softpatch2.htm#CHDCHIJG

I'm not a RAC person so cannot provide personal experience.  I believe there are several Experts here that do use RAC and they will likely comment later.

It depends on the patch.

Some one-off patches are just file copies.
Patchsets can really be complete re-installs.

Every patch comes with installation instructions and should include RAC guidelines.

"Every patch comes with installation instructions and should include RAC guidelines. "

hi, never apply patch on oracle before, what is the site of downloading the patch with instruction ? how many way to deploy patch  for RAC nodes?

on the link you show me: I see from the Rolling Patching section:

"This is performed group by group, separately, until all the nodes in the cluster are patched. "

so we create the group only when doing the patch ?

basically the minimum down time way and rolling patch method seems the same, right ?

>> what is the site of downloading the patch with instruction ?

Patches are found at: support.oracle.com  You will needs a valid support contract and your CSI number.  If you do not have your CSI number, you'll need to contact your DBA or license group to see if they have it.  If they do not, you'll need to contact your Oracle Account Team or Oracle Sales Rep.

>>how many way to deploy patch  for RAC nodes?

Specific to RAC?  I don't know.  I don't use RAC.

>>so we create the group only when doing the patch ?

Not being a RAC person I'm not really sure but I don't see you creating anything just to apply a patch.  Oracle Support or your Account Team should be able to assist you.

Rolling patch application is one of the ways to minimize downtime.  There may be more but I'm not aware of them specifically.
