Google Docs - Prevent viewing of cell range

Hello,

How can I prevent users of a shared Google Docs spreadsheet from viewing certain cell ranges? I know how to define a range and put permissions on it, but it always seems to still allow people to see (though somewhat redacted) information in the cells. Though I can take away their permissions to edit, I can't seem to take away the ability to see it at all...Any ideas?

I am not sure what you are trying to do is possible. You can protect a sheet and hide, but anyone with shared access should be able to see or unhide the hidden cells.

I am not sure what you are trying to protect, but if you have sensitive data, you can create separate sheets for users and then import data into a master sheet for yourself. That seems like  a lot of work, but if it solves your problem, it may help.

I actually did do some more research for you. It sounds like it is a limitation of Google. The good news is they know it is a problem and may address it in future releases of Google Apps.
