Slow logon /off Roaming Profiles SBS 2003

We have extremely long log on, log off, reboot times with two workstations.  When either of the computers is disconnected from the network the process is 10 times faster.  We do not know who to troubleshoot roaming profiles.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

How big are the profiles?  Every time a user logs on / off, the profile has to be copied to / from the server, so if the profiles are big, then it will take longer.

Profiles will consist of Desktop items, pictures, documents, videos etc.

If there are a large amount of items e.g., they have synced their mobile phone and sucked a copy of all their photos into their pictures, then if it isn't business related, the images can be removed.

1.6 Gigs for one and 564 MB for the other.
They both have something called Profile v.2 in the same directory.
e.g.
C:\Users Shared Folders\cmooney
C:\Users Shared Folders\cmooney\MyDocs
C:\Users Shared Folders\cmooney\Profile
C:\Users Shared Folders\cmooney\Profile. v2

And compared to the people with profiles that don't take long to upload / download, how big are their profiles?

Good question and I just checked.
There are two users who's profiles logon /off / reboot within 3 mins.  They are:
Appraiser1   =  1.70 GB
Appraiser2  =  8 GB

Then there are two users who have problems.
Cmoonie   1.6 GB (but I have recently removed 900 Mb from her profile in her mydocs)
Processor 560 MB.......
I have also verified that this is not machine specific.  in other words i have logged into other machines with the above profiles and gotten same results.

Okay - are you using folder redirection in addition to roaming profiles?
