Zimbra 8.5 community + activSync

Ok probably not the best place to ask but the Zimbra online site a really confusing...

Is activSync part of the open source version in v 8.5 !?

If not is zPush the solution ?

Active sync is not part of the open source version. Z-push version 2 or higher is what I use and it works very well. I recommend installing zpush on a different server from the zimbra server.

Thanks - I am using  z-Push with 8.0.x with decent success - any pitfall I should be aware of ?

No specific Pitfalls. The developer keeps zpush updated and is always making improvements. I occasionally have issues with some android devices running older versions having issues with replying to or sending new outbound emails on the device. The email will go out in machine code gibberish. usually updating to at least android 4.x is enough to take care of that.

Ok just gave it a try - update was surprisingly fluid. Some strange issue with zPush, tough - most users are ok but about 30% are having issue:

I would be very surprised if 20+ user would have changed their password just while I was updating the server. And their IMAP / webmail acces works...

Any idea ?

With the new version of z-push there are 2 useful utilities that can help. z-push-admin and z-push-top. Both should be in /usr/share/z-push

with the admin tool you can list devices associated with a user. and force a device to be synchronized as well as clear loops. z-push-top allows you to see what devices are connected and what errors if any they are having.

For the users having issues, what do you see in z-push-top?

well almost miraculously the problem self solved overnight - not quite sure how / why (maybe some caching ?) but without changing anything either client or server side it is now working fine with Android, iPhone and BlackBery 10 devices.
