"The namespace is not unique in the domain in which the namespace server was created. You must go back to choose a new namespace name, or change the namespace type to stand-alone"

from the looks of the error that you have posted, it seems that a domain DFS name space is already created with that name. A couple of things that you could try.
if possible create a new DFS name space with a different name -if that works then there is definitely a duplicate. you could also view the dfs name spaces that are created in AD using ADSIEDIT. Launch the tool and connect to the default naming context and drill down to
CN=DFS-Configuration, CN=System, DC=Domainname, DC=local or whatever

Deleted the old DFS name by using the command 'DFSUTIL ROOT REMOVE \\domain \namespace'.
