json file vs sql database

I have a csv file with 4000 rows and just 4 columns of data.
Right now I have it sitting in a mysql database, and I search through it and return search results through ajax onto my web page.
Would it be faster to convert my csv to json?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you want to benchmark this question and determine the different speeds, this little timer class may be helpful.  Unless your database is very poorly structured, I tend to agree with Gary.  Optimizing things like this are like milking a mouse -- no matter how much effort you put into the project, you will not get much yield!
