Cannot display performacepoint data from SSAS tabular model

I am using dashboard designer 2013 with performacepoint and am trying to setup an analytical report. I have a tabular model on my SQL Server 2012. The tabular model works well when creating reports but I cannot get any data to show when connecting my performance point. I created a data source connection  to a multi-dimensional cube and it "appear" to connect but when creating the report, it says I do not have permission. I have a feeling the issue is the fact that I have a tabular model and this connection type and a multi-dimensional cube. There is no tabular model in the options for dashboard designer 2013....can I connect to a tabular model? if so, how?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It should work. If a program such as Dashboard Designer (and others, including Excel PivotTable!) do not use DAX, they use MDX, and SSAS understands that fine.

So, it's probably the permissions. Does your personal login have Read permissions (or better) on the finished model? Are you able to impersonate someone else in the connection string?
