backing up easily using usb (no complex cloud subscription service)

previously i used app:
sms backup and restore
and backed up sms to sim card and plugged my phone into computer and saved .xml files of sms

since my new android 4.4.2 phone has no sim card,
how can I backup to computer (easily by plugging in usb):
sms xml files
picture files

All smart phones have a sim card.

Back up can be done by many softwares this is one recommend product by recovery-android.com
