Can somebody explain to me what Control Channel, Trunk priority and Jumbo frames on VIO are for?
Also, when sea is setup on the VIO, should the ip address be assigned to the sea or to another unused physical adapter ?

Hi

Control Channel: An additional virtual Ethernet adapter, which belongs to a unique VLAN on the system, is used to create the control channel between the SEAs, and must be specified in each SEA when configured in ha_mode. The purpose of this control channel is to communicate between the two SEA adapters to determine when a fail over should take place.

Trunk priority: The priority value defines which of the two SEAs will be the primary and which will be the backup. The lower the priority value, the higher the priority, e.g. an adapter with priority 1 will have the highest priority.

Jumbo Frames: Allows for a larger MTU to be used, thus less packet overhead on the server, essentially used for performance gains.

As for IP addresses, these are con gured either on the SEA adapter or another virtual adapter on the VLAN that is not the backing device for the SEA.  IP addresses cannot be con gured on physical or virtual adapters that are used to create the SEA.

HTH

Hello JP,

Thank you for the detailed explanation.

Just 1 follow up question.
From your answer, In regards to the 2 sea's that are controlled by control channel. Are the 2 sea's on same 1 vio OR
are the 2 sea's spread across 2 VIOS, with 1 sea on each VIO ?
