Can some expert explain me what is exactly IDX.<br />

I am putting up a real estate website. I bought the template for this on wordpress platform. It says its IDX enabled. <br />
But what does exactly IDX do ? How does it integrate with MLS ? I am not able to find any reasonable explanation to these questions.

What is exactly IDX?
