"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Mostly, it's for the Microsoft networking part of it (easily connect to shared drives).

It's for sharing folders. It manages the ACL of the share, too.

Ok one thing to add: not only folders, but also printers.
The service description in services.msc says it all (There, the name of the service is "server").

The shares are what one sets up, not the service. Please clarify what you are trying to achieve.
