HP inventory

We have around 2000 physical servers and most of them HP Proliant servers running with Vwmare 5.5. We are looking our create the central inventory of all the fireware, BIOS version, HBA driver versions, all device driver version etc...bascially we need complete inventory and compare with the latest updates and plan for the maintenance window and update the server with latest versions.

How can we achieve this complete inventory and change management.

I know that we can use HP SIM, but detailed process/work flow is very much apreciated.

Thanks Andrew, do you think whether can I the different stages of this process and activities involved. For example,
first step is scan network, generate the report, check the internet for latest updates, test the updates, pilot testing, if issues rollback, prod deployment and rescan, something like process flow and best practices.

one of more how to get the OEM ESX image report in oour network to find whether our OEM is HP customized OEM? where i can get report for complete hosts?

Have you installed HP SIM yet, downloaded the software, downloaded the Implementations Guide Lines?

created the process flow with below phases

      Create the governance and project plan, who is responsible for what with tentative timelines
      Install the HP SIM server
      Capture all the hardware inventory that includes BIOS, firmware, device drivers versions
      Do the gap analysis with latest updates
      Assess the criticality
      Deploy on test servers
      Create the rollback plan
      Deploy the updates in appropriate maintenance window
