I downloaded the installation file here, http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36843

I run it and I get the failure report in the attached html file, BlockMixedArchitectureInstall.
Below please also see my SQL version information( I believe it's SQL 2012).  I have Visual Studio 2012.

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio                                    11.0.3000.0
Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools                                    11.0.3000.0
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)                                    6.1.7601.17514

Microsoft .NET Framework                                    4.0.30319.18444
Operating System                                    6.1.7601

When Installing you need to select 'New Instance' option.

This is because it gets confused by trying to install an x86 architecture version of sql server 2012 sp1 even though your sql server 2012 version is x64 architecture and is already installed with sp1.

It will not create a new instance even though that is the option you select.
