RDS host server farm

Reading some sources I found that session host server farm is the server group created on connection broker before RDS roles installation
In some other sources, authors were saying that host server farm is the COLLECTION created for publishing of applications
Can anybody please explain what exactly is the RDS Host Server Farm,and shoud that farm have FQDN for external users

for external users use a gateway and this must have a FQDN that is externally accessible.
The connection broker service is the manager of the farm and using round robin sends users to different Session Host Servers.

OK that I do understand My question was RDS farm - is that a group of physical servers that was created before roles installation (RDS 2012) or that is a collection of Remote Applications
Because reading recommendations regarding building RDS 2012 Farm, I found different opinions
