I am deploying a new ASA 5545 in a network and the client wants to have a few of their networks segregated into VLANS.

Can deploying the VLANs be done by setting the ports on the router to the individual VLANS?  I realilze that I will still have to creating VLAN tags on the switches as well.

yes........you can build vlans at either the router level or the switch level
you can have each switch support 1 vlan and the router routes between them
or you can have multiple vlans active on different ports on the same switch

you can use L2 mac address @ switch
or L3 - ip addresses @ router or if your switch supports L3 ( probably the more popular simple solution)
then create some vlans and and add description - almost done

hear is a simple config clip - http://aconaway.com/2008/04/01/setting-up-vlans-on-an-asa-5505/

you can read Cisco press - just not @ bedtime...lol
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/asa/asa72/configuration/guide/conf_gd/int5505.pdf
or there are some good youtube videos
