I have set  up a  Cisco 2504 which is working well with A production ssid  and a guest ssid.
i would like to setup  mac addreses filtering on the production SSID so that  only users with a a known mac address  can access the WLAN.

It's easy enough.  Here's a great step-by-step...

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless-mobility/wlan-security/91901-mac-filters-wlcs-config.html#conf-wlan

You can still use 802.1x or PSK - the example just shows the steps to enable MAC filtering.
