Adding SCSI disk to Hyper-V 2012 R2 VM

When I go into the Settings of the VM to add a SCSI drive you have multiple choices wondering why Disk 0 says disk in use?  Have seen that with adding an IDE drive as well so, have always picked a different drive number, but could never find an answer to the question.

for scsi drive 0 is the controller itself.
