Consultant was setup as mail contact in Exchange 2010 then hired internally. Default address policy applied and correct smtp created in AD when added as employee. When Outlook 2010 users internally attempt to send to him it defaults to the mail contact address. the mail contact address was removed but the behavior persists.

If you look in the GAL as seen by the clients, do they see the mailbox or the contact?
This is usually caused by the autocomplete information in Outlook, which you cannot control. Outlook will query that first. The only way round it is to get the users to remove the entry from their frequently used addresses (start typing the address and then when it comes up, pressing DOWN and then Delete) and selecting the user from the GAL fresh.

An X500 address that matches the old Contact applied to the mailbox would get round the issue from a delivery point of view. It will not resolve the issue completely though until users remove the entry from nicknames.

Simon.

How about that - it was really that simple. Indeed, the cached addresses in Outlook were causing the problem. I vaguely recall that from older versions but completely forgot about it. Clearly the answer, clean points award. Many thanks.
