Transfer Wordpress site

I have a site where the current site is at www.somecompany.com.

A new Word Press site was developed at www.somecompany.com/new-site.

The new Word Press site is now ready to go live.

I am not clear on how to transfer things.

I have already saved the old site at www.somecompany.com/old-site.

My thinking is I ftp the contents of /new-site to my local machine, wipe out everything at the root of www.somecompany.com EXCEPT the folder old-site and then ftp all the Word Press files up to the root of www.somecompany.com. Then open Wordpress (in wp-admin). Will that adjust everything (like permalinks, etc.)?

Or is there a different way that's better?

Thanks

Since you are just changing the URL, this site has the required steps:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

or you can use some of the available plugins
