vsphere web client wont launch console

i've set up my ESXi 5.5 on my HP ProLiant DL160 G6 .... i've setup several virtual machines.... and i've set up the vcenter VM .... i am accessing vsphere web client through vsphere web client, but cannot launch a console window.....  the launch console option comes up greyed out ... and if i try to launch console from the virtual machine summary screen it launches a windows which brings up a generic google chrome 'webpage not available screen'  

i've done a little research online and found some possilbe solutions to the problem ... none have worked ( including assigning permissions to the root user to allow console interaction)

the console windows will lanch within vsphere client... but i'd like to do it within web client

When you first connect to vCenter Server (via Web Client), before login, do you get the option to download the plugin ?
