Quicktime .mov files will not play

Customer needs to view several .mov files.  I downloaded the current Quicktime app.  When they click on the link--which ends in .mov--Quicktime does start up, but all we ever see is the progress bar at the bottom.  No video, no audio, and no errors.  I have tried this on their Win 8.1 system as well as my Win7 system, using IE, Firefox, and Chrome.

Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.  TIA

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I can't help you with QuickTime, but if you're willing to consider a different product, VLC is excellent (free!) software that I've been using for many years:
http://www.videolan.org/

It has all of the codecs built in. It supports MOV and just about all audio and video file formats. It runs on W7 and W8/8.1. Regards, Joe
