Access SQL Server via Web API from Mobile

Hi Experts,
I have developed an ASP.NET application that allows for capturing members data and assets that belongs to them. In addition members can upload images to the server and the full path of the image is stored in SQL Server. This all work fine but now I have to provide for mobile access with similar functionality. Conventional web access on mobile obviously does not cater for access to the camera or file uploads and using a cross platform development environment like Intel XDK seems to be the answer. I am assuming that instead of conventional SQL access I will need to using something like WEB API. This is now where I get horribly stuck to find examples of developing the mobile side and the related API that can help me achieve this. I would really appreciate help or examples to get me going.

Some more info:
I need specific examples of creating a Restfull API that will enable access to the SQL tables and that the mobile front end (javascript) can call.
kind regards

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi lcohan,
Thank you this.
This is certainly helping me a lot.
I will be accepting this as answer.
Do you perhaps know of any mobile side (javascript) specific examples of how to code calling the Web api and then displaying the mobile data. I have little knowledge of mobile and will need to learn.
I am currently learning Intel XDK to develop the mobile front end.
