I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The answer is DONT!

If you apply any third party patches, (e.g. not from VMware) the support of the appliance, is not longer supported.

Applying patches via Upgrade is the correct and supported method.

Check the logs as to why the supported patch/upgrade path is not working.
