My boss who is not computer literate has a mac.  Mountain Lion.  Uses apple mail program.  Receives attachments from employees that are coming from Outlook and of course gets the winmail.dat thing.  I know there are programs that can open these files outside of the mail program, but does anyone know of one that can link to mail and open it automatically?  This is what I would like.  He gets the email and sees the win mail.dat attachment and is able to double click it and it opens up fine in another program.

I'm not a Mac support person, but Google says "Letter Opener Pro" does this.  Unfortunately it looks like your boss's version of MAC is 0.1 versions too old.  :-(
Looks like there is also a Winmail Viewer available from the Apple Store which is compatible with your boss's Mac.
